Teaming up for the first time since 1993, Puma is outfitting Valencia with an especially unique away jersey for the 19/20 season, the club’s 100th in its history. From the chest up, the jersey boasts a rippling graphic design combining the iconic orange of the The Bats with solid black. The combo is meant to be reminiscent of the city of Valencia’s famous Las Fallas festival, held every year in March. During the festival, large wood and paper mache caricatures, or “ninots,” are built and paraded around the city. On the festival’s final day, La Cremà, the structures are set aflame with fireworks and burn against the night sky for hours on end as offerings to the patron saint of carpentry. Thus comes the wavy orange graphic flux – bringing to mind the way the flames dance on La Cremà – against the jersey’s solid black. This top celebrates a city’s heritage, its culture and its identity in a way few manage.
