      Because soccer socks are required to cover up your shinguards in matches, soccer socks are absolutely a necessity for the serious player.  But there are some options in soccer socks that should be carefully considered before purchase. Socks that are thinner are better at managing moisture. Socks that are thicker are used for warmth. The thickness you choose depends on the climate in which you will be playing. Typically synthetic materials like polyester and spandex are used for moisture management and stretch with more traditional fabrics such as cotton used for warmth and thickness. Often socks are a blend of both of these types of fiber, and you can check the various material ratios to get an idea of which blend would be best for your playing conditions. It is a good idea to have several pairs of socks in your various colors and materials to be ready for any situation. Also, it is a good idea to purchase socks that have a slightly padded foot and arch support of some kind, particularly if the fields you play on are fairly hard.
