Arsenal Football Club
From Guns to Goals: Arsenal is one of the Strongest Soccer Clubs in History
Strong Foundation
Arsenal FC was formed by a group of workers at a munitions factory: the Woolwich Arsenal Armament in 1886. The club won their first piece of silverware in 1930 by winning the FA Cup (2 to 0 against Huddersfield Town) and followed that up with five league titles and another FA Cup, under the tutelage of Herbert Chapman in the 1930's.
Steadfast Success
Since the 1930’s, Arsenal has won an additional 8 League Titles and 7 FA Cups! In 1970, the Gunners defeated Anderlecht 4 to 3 to win their first European
Championship: the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup! Arsenal downed archrivals Liverpool 3 to 1 in 1987 for their first League Cup – which they won again in 1993 versus Sheffield Wednesday. The following year, Arsenal overcame Parma 1 to 0 for their first Cup Winners Cup Triumph.
Recent Glory
They were Premiership Champions during the 2001/2002, and 2003/2004 seasons. On May 21st, 2005, the Gunners defeated archrivals, Manchester United 5 to 4 in a penalty shootout to conquer their 10th FA Cup of England! Arsenal has spent 87 consecutive seasons in the national top flight –a record— and have finished first more times than any other team, except for Liverpool and Manchester United. Arsenal is one of the strongest sides in soccer history, having finished below 14th only 7 times, and never below 20th.
Champions League
April 5th 2006 will be a date Gunners' fans will never forget: Arsenal held Italian Champions Juventus scoreless for two games and on the powerful legs of Fabregas and Henry advanced for the first time to the UEFA Champions League semifinals with the 2-0 aggregate victory!
But they weren't done there: With steadfast defense, Arsenal held Villareal scoreless to win 1-0 and advance to their first ever Champions League final.
