AC MILAN

With a willingness to attack, Milan Associazione Calcio, better known as A.C. Milan, has distinguished themselves from many other Italian sides and by doing so have filled their trophy cabinet with some impressive silverware.

The Glory

The Rossoneri have brought home 16 league championships, 4 domestic cups, 6 European Championship cups, 2 European Cup Winners’ Cups, 3 European Super Cups, and, 3 World Club Cup championships.

The Beginning

After their formation in 1899, known then as Milan FC, the club immediately established themselves as a contender. In 1901 they broke the Genoese strangle hold on Italian football by winning their first scudetto, accomplishing the feat two more times in the first decade of the century. Ironically, the founder of the company that sponsors cross town rival Internazionale, Pieró Pirelli, was a supporter of A.C. Milan and helped the club take the step from being a solid but small local club to a European power. Pirelli, helped finance the building of the San Siro in 1926.

Present Glory

While AC Milan fielded some dominant squads after WWII, finishing in the top three of the Italian league from 1948 through 1966 in all but one year, it is the teams of the 1990’s that will be remembered as the most impressive era in A.C. Milan history. With players such as Guillt, Marco van Basten, Rijkaard and managers Sacchi and Capello; Milan won 5 scudettos, 4 European Cups, 3 European Super Cups, and 2 World Club Cup championships. The 2005 Champions League Vice Champions.
