Kelme is a company who distributes sportswear, footwear, and equipment worldwide. They focus on making the best sportswear for their athletes while also keeping a competitive advantage over its competitors with their accent of the most current fashion-trends added into some of their apparel. In 1963, two brothers by the name of Diego and Jose Quiles decided to launch their business as a classic footwear distributor. By 1977, Kelme was established in Spain. The two brothers launched their first collection of soccer shoes in 1982. Kelme was being worn at top events such as the 1992 Olympic Games by the Spanish Olympic team. In 1994, they signed a contract with Real Madrid which lasted until 1998. Kelme came out with their first innovative design called the “SWITCH boot sole plate system.” This system had two versions of removable cleats containing different densities which gave a player more options when it came to playing on different field surfaces. However, they did not stop here when it came to innovative ideas. Just recently, Kelme has come out with a new technology that features a soccer boot made of un-tanned sharkskin. This durable material contains a pattern of overlapping layers of texture that resemble tiny shark’s teeth which are called the ‘dermal denticles.’ Fiber glass and reinforced concrete are just some of the man-made compounds that these ‘denticles’ are compared to. The strength of this substance almost pairs up against granite and steel. Another innovative product that Kelme has recently produced is the Limited Edition, “The One.” The intention of this boot is to provide an exclusive, upper-class soccer shoe which contains a highly-innovative structure. This innovative system is called the “K-Fresh Air”. A player receives ultimate performance comfort with this breathable, waterproof material. The boot gives a combination of the extremely durable shark-skin leather on the upper, along with kangaroo leather on the heel for shaping and maximum comfort. For a personal touch, there are only going to be five hundred produced and each boot is going to have a number along with the silver thread used in the embroidery. Some players who represent the ‘K’ are David James, Ryan Green, and Katia. David James, the goalkeeper for the premier league team Portsmouth, just recently signed with Kelme. James has won several championships along with numerous caps with the English National Team. Ryan Green plays for the well-known Bristol Rovers FC in England. Katia is a Brazilian national player who was one of the stars of the 2005 Women’s World Cup. She has played in two World Cups along with two Olympic Games. She was the top scorer in all five seasons of playing in the Brazilian Women’s League. Kelme’s vision is to continue to develop innovative designs which give athletes a better experience on the field. Their new development of the shark-skin leather is one example of how they are dedicated to providing their athletes with top quality products.
